Biography
As an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at the UBC’s Okanagan campus, Dr. Crichton had taught in rural and urban K-12 schools in British Columbia, California, and Australia. She was a faculty member at University of Calgary in the specialization of Educational Technology. She was a visiting professor with Aga Khan University – Institute of Educational Development, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and a Fellow of the Commonwealth Centre of Education, University of Cambridge. Dr. Crichton has worked on Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and Asian Development Bank (ADB) projects in rural western China, as well as educational projects in Bhutan, Chile, Tanzania and Uganda. She was an online mentor for the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) project in Afghanistan. Dr. Crichton was named by SCOOL, an innovative Finnish education organization, as one of 100 top thought leaders and change-makers in education and was included in HundrED project, imagining the next 100 years of Finnish education (https://hundred.org/en/media/susan-crichton).

Research Interests & Projects
Dr. Crichton’s research focuses on design thinking and the Maker Movement. She is exploring innovative uses of technology to foster creativity and imagination for educators. She also works with colleagues in challenging contexts so explore ways that appropriate technologies can provide access to professional development and make culturally relevant resources to support active learning.

Dr. Crichton is author of numerous journal articles, book chapters and research studies exploring the intersection of technology and learning. She is on a review board of numerous journals and conferences. She has been invited to keynote and present in conferences and workshops nationally and internationally.
